Life doesn’t always work out the way we plan it.
As a promising young footballer I was involved in a serious road traffic accident. I broke my neck and was given just a 20% chance of using my limbs again. Yet after a long hard battle I beat the odds, and walked out of the spinal unit.
With a million pounds in compensation and with little idea of money’s true value, I poured my cash into failed business ventures, buying both a big wheel and a tele-sales company, all while dealing with the inner turmoil of disability and depression, and the fear that all anybody wanted from me was my money. I found myself drinking, taking drugs and, on a number of occasions, came close to ending my life – not least following my mum’s death from cancer in 2006.
Now I want to tell the story of how I beat the dark days, squandered a million pounds in ten years, and finally accepted myself and my situation. My story is truly inspirational.
